5 things I did when I had COVID

Sadly COVID seems to be rife again, so I thought I'd share some of the things I did to support my immune system when I had it last week in case you get it too. Thankfully my symptoms weren't terrible, and the tips below are not designed to replace medical advice - if you feel like you need to go to the doctor, do. Also, always check for interactions with any medication you're on before taking supplements. Right, disclaimers done - let's get into it!

  1. Kiwis: This was the first thing I bought when I felt I was getting ill. They contain the highest amounts of vitamin C of any fruit, much more than oranges. Gold kiwis have higher levels than green, so if you have the option go for gold. Studies have shown that vitamin C reduces the duration and symptoms of colds and that kiwis can reduce the severity and length of upper respiratory infection symptoms. I had one a day but have a couple if you fancy!

  2. Zinc: I supplemented with 22mg zinc picolinate every night - it's a great anti-viral and it's essential for your immune system. I use this one.

  3. Vitamin D: I used 6 drops of this in a glass of water every night too. Vitamin D is crucial for the immune system and is associated with decreased risk of ICU administration and death from COVID. People with low levels of vitamin D (which is very common in the UK, especially in winter) have been shown to have more severe COVID symptoms.

  4. Throat spray: I'm obsessed with throat sprays, I seem to have one in every room now. The best is a propolis one I get from Silver Island, an amazing yoga retreat in Greece my mum and I go on together, but sadly it's run out. This is the second best! It calms your throat, the elderberries are a good source of vitamin C, and marshmallow is antimicrobial. As we know from COVID tests, the virus can be found in the throat so this is a helpful way of keeping the mouth clean.

  5. Sinus massage: I found my sinuses were very blocked and my face looked super puffy (lovely) so doing this massage was very helpful in getting things moving and feeling less blocked up. I like to put some jojoba oil on my face first so it's easier to massage.

If you want to buy any of the products I mention here (which are not sponsored btw!!), use code 'LAJN15' for 15% off at The Natural Dispensary.

Hopefully this is helpful to come back to whenever you have COVID or feel rundown. Also, remember to rest and go easy on yourself :)
